Old-school spaghetti

Growing up we didn’t always have all the ingredients for a spaghetti dinner so my mom would create things with what she had. This recipe became a staple in our neighborhood (Oak Cliff) not just our home.

  • 1 Tbsp dried basil (fresh if you have it)

  • 1 can diced tomatoes

  • 1 can tomato sauce (15 oz)

  • 8 oz tomato puree

  • 1 can shoepeg corn (11 oz)

  • 8 oz elbow macaroni

  • 2 tsp Slap Yo Mama seasoning (Lawry’s or something similar)

  • Cook bell pepper, onion, and ground beef. Add some Slap yo Mama seasoning to taste. Drain.
  • Cook the elbow macaroni as the box instructs. Drain and rinse with cold water.

  • Add the pasta and simmer for 5 more minutes.
  • Serve and eat. Some add Parmesan cheese for a topping.

Side Note:
You can sub a can of Hunt’s spaghetti sauce for the 15 oz can of tomato sauce.
